Message from the Director of Language, Literature and History Directorate
The Language, Literature and History Development Directorate is dedicated to preserving and promoting the linguistic, literary, and historical heritage of the community. Language and history are essential components of identity and play a critical role in maintaining social cohesion and cultural continuity.
The Directorate conducts linguistic research and supports the development of orthographies, dictionaries, and terminologies to strengthen language standardization. It promotes the use of the Somali language across education, media, administration, and public life to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.
In addition, the Directorate works to revitalize endangered languages, enhance literacy, and encourage creative writing, translation, and publication. It supports writers and researchers in producing literary and historical works that reflect the culture and identity of the community.
The Directorate also undertakes the documentation of oral traditions and preservation of historical records through archives and libraries. These efforts ensure that knowledge is preserved and made accessible for future generations while contributing to sustainable cultural development.
