Cultural Heritage and Indigenous Knowledge Development Directorate

The Cultural Heritage and Indigenous Knowledge Development Directorate is responsible for safeguarding, developing, and promoting living cultural expressions and indigenous knowledge systems of the community. The Directorate works to preserve cultural identity, strengthen social cohesion, and ensure the transfer of cultural values, skills, and knowledge across generations.

It undertakes the identification, documentation, and safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, including traditions, ceremonies, social practices, customary laws, and traditional conflict resolution systems. The Directorate conducts research, archiving, and awareness programs to prevent cultural loss and sustain community heritage.

In addition, it promotes indigenous knowledge related to traditional medicine, pastoralism, agriculture, environmental conservation, and climate adaptation while collaborating with elders, cultural leaders, and institutions to protect community intellectual heritage and support sustainable cultural development.
