First Somali Language Children’s Magazine Launched in Ethiopia

The President of the Somali Regional State, Mustafe Muhumed Omar, officially launched the first children’s magazine written in the Somali language in Ethiopia at Duule Hotel. The magazine, titled “Ubadsan”, has been developed by the Ethiopian Press Agency as part of efforts to promote children’s education and cultural development through native language content. “Ubadsan” features a variety of materials including stories, poems, and educational entertainment, all designed to support the positive upbringing and learning of children. The publication is the result of extensive planning and preparation by the Ethiopian Press Agency. Speaking at the launch event, President Mustafe Muhumed Omar expressed his strong appreciation for the initiative, noting that it marks the first time such a magazine has been produced in the Somali language within the country. He emphasized that the magazine will help children learn about their culture, history, and global developments in their own language. He also highlighted its potential to make the Somali language more accessible to other communities across Ethiopia. In addition to Somali, the magazine is also published in two other Ethiopian languages, namely Afaan Oromo and Amharic, further expanding its reach and impact.

Speaking at the event, the President noted that the previous location of the statue made it difficult for visitors to access and take photos due to congestion. He stated that the new site provides a more accessible and well-organized environment for the public. The statue, which previously stood at a busy roundabout in the city, symbolizes the struggle for freedom and the bravery of the Sayyid. However, as part of the city’s redevelopment and beautification plan, it has now been relocated to a more prominent and suitable location. In addition, a community iftar gathering was held at the site, attended by government officials and various members of the Jigjiga community, marking the occasion with social unity and cultural significance.
